Brad Miller sets Tiger MLB Record

by -

Brad Miller hit his 28th home run of the season on Monday night for the Tampa Bay Rays in Toronto. With the home run, Miller established a record for most home runs in an MLB season by a former Tiger.

The previous record was 27 homers by Khalil Greene (San Diego Padres) in 2007. The only other former Tiger to hit 20 home runs in a season is Tyler Colvin, who hit 20 in 2010 for the Chicago Cubs.

Miller tied Greene’s record with his 27th long ball on Sunday at Yankee Stadium. Miller’s tying and record-breaking home runs were hit on the road. He has 20 home runs at home and eight on the road in 2016.

The former Clemson infielder (2009-11) who was an All-American in 2011 had just five home runs on June 10, but then hit seven in July and eight in August. He hit 14 home runs before the All-Star break and has 14 since. He had 71 RBIs and was hitting .249 heading into Tuesday night game at Toronto.

Miller was named the top shortstop in college baseball in 2011 when he hit .395 and was the ACC Player-of-the-Year. He was the starting shortstop on Clemson’s 2010 College World Series team and hit .357 with 19 doubles and eight home runs.

Miller hit 16 home runs in 191 career games for the Tigers. He has 57 home runs in four years and 477 games in the majors. Greene has the career record for home runs by a former Tiger with 90.
