I would like to get your opinion on the coaches. When you have the success we have enjoyed, schools come poaching for coaches. We all knew Chad was going to leave and some would speculate Brent will be gone to a head coaching position. Honestly, I am not worried about Venables, I think he loves it at Clemson and sees no reason to change. The coach I believe will be gone in the not too distant future is Tony Elliott. His knowledge of the game and ability to evaluate talent speaks for itself, but I think he also has the intangible demeanor that it takes to be a head coach. I just don't see the same from others based on interviews. I would like to get your opinion.

Tony Elliott is one of the most intelligent coaches I have ever been around. He has the mind of a very talented engineer. Few coaches are as bright as Elliott. He is also very marketable as a head coach because he is a good recruiter who relates well to prospects and their families. I do not doubt that he can become a head coach very soon. What I don't know is how urgent he feels about getting a head coaching job. How patient will he be? Some think he could be the successor here at Clemson when Dabo calls it quits, but that doesn't appear to be anytime soon and will Elliott hang around and wait or go away and advance his career then come back home?

I know you have been to practice. Who has stood out? What's the scoop? Closed practices have me starving for info. Help!!!!

I have been twice for a total of about an hour and 45 minutes. This is a big, strong looking football team. There is a lot of depth in a lot of different areas. This staff has recruited well, and the strength and conditioning staff has done a great job. All of the quarterbacks look good. There will be a drop off there, but there is talent. Bryant has improved his passing accuracy. Johnson is a talent. Cooper has the strongest arm. I think Feaster is the most talented back, but there is stiff competition there. Higgins and Rodgers are great looking freshmen at wide out. Both will make big impacts. The offensive line looks to be in good shape. Simpson is pushing for a starting spot at guard and Anchrum is pushing Pollard at right tackle.

The defensive front is talented. Nothing can be added to the starting four. Jordan Williams has a great future as does Pinckney and Huggins. The linebacking corps is deep. Muse has impressed at safety. There are a lot of good looking athletes at corner.

Punter is a concern, but I think rugby style punting will take some pressure off there.

It is different to look out there and not see Watson or Boulware or Gallman or Williams, but there is a lot of talent still in this program. I can't imagine anyone other than FSU that is on the schedule that will match this talent level.

There are a lot of intangibles though. Will this team stay healthy? Can they avoid turnovers? Can it win in tough road environments? Can they handle success? Can they handle failure?

These are the questions. The good news is there are a lot of potential good answers.
