can get a medical redshirt this year if he isn't 100%? I mean he basically redshirted himself last year because he felt he just wasn't ready, so I'm just wondering, if he feels the same way this year can he try for a medical redshirt?

Brad

Brad,

No. Travis used his medical hardship last season. He will be a red-shirt junior this season. He will have two years to play two. I talked to Travis last week, and he says he is 100%. For those that haven't heard me say it, Travis is one of the most impressive young people I have ever been around.

Mickey,

Let's stick with the optimistic point of view for the 2015 season. The pessimistic point of view brought tears to my eyes!

Kindest Regards,

Kirk

Kirk,

I consider myself an optimist. Writing a pessimistic point of view is not easy, but I wanted to point out a few areas of concern. Thanks. Let's hope it is an optimistic season.

Mickey,

Please ban Anonymous08 from your blog. It's obvious he is obsessed with you and your blog. Has he ever had anything positive to say about anything you have ever written? Just kick his butt to the curb. I guess some people just want to be a pain and be negative.

Jeff

Jeff,

I don't know the poster.  Maybe he is just a really good guy that loves to critique.  It takes all types of people to make this world go around. If it bothers you, my suggestion is just to ignore it.

Mickey,

UNC Coach Larry Fedora has gone on record as saying recruits will not make their decision on the stipend by saying, "I don't think it's going to be based on a couple thousand dollars". My guess is if Coach Fedora wants to take his program to a spot anywhere near where the UNC basketball program is then he will have to recruit against schools in the SEC. The SEC has 7 teams in the top 20 schools in stipend amounts and in the ACC, only Louisville who will pay $5202 is in the top 20.

Coach Fedora's naïve thought is disputed by Dabo who says "I think there will be some problems with it" and my guess is that is an understatement. Clemson is scheduled to pay the 3rd highest stipend in the ACC but it is a full $1594 less than Louisville and even less than many of the SEC schools that Clemson recruits against. My first question is are college football players usually so well off that an extra $133 per month would not come in very handy? My second question is whether the formula for computing the stipend is public knowledge and what that formula is? College students have expenses and football/basketball players on scholarship probably have it far better and eat far better than students in general. Honestly I have a hard time not seeing the stipend as anything other than an allowance and have a very hard time not believing that $100-$400 more allowance per month will not make any difference to kids that probably have very small allowances at home. For once, I hope a Tar Heel is right.

Andy

Andy,

I think Fedora was trying to spin it, but I disagree with him. A few thousand dollars over four years is a big deal to 17-year old kids. I don't agree with giving players money, but if we do I have a hard time seeing how different schools can give different amounts.
