Clemson, SC—Clemson safety DeAndre McDaniel has been named a preseason first-team All-American by NationalChamps.net, a website that covers college football. McDaniel was a first-team All-American according to the Football Writers of America last year when he helped the Tigers to a #24 final Associated Press ranking and the school’s first ACC Atlantic Division title.

McDaniel was joined on the first team defensive secondary by Brandon Harris of Miami (FL), Rahim Moore of UCLA and Tyler Sash of Iowa. Other ACC players named to the first team were George Bryan of NC State at tight end, Rodney Hudson of Florida State at offensive tackle, and Allen Bailey of Miami (FL) at defensive tackle.

McDaniel finished the 2009 season with eight interceptions to rank in a tie for third in the nation. The total also tied a Clemson single season record. The native of Tallahassee, FL had 102 tackles to go with those eight interceptions, the first player in Clemson history with at least 100 tackles and eight interceptions in the same year. He enters his senior year with 212 career tackles and 11 interceptions.
