Tigers Showing Interest in Florida Kicker
With uncertainties in the kicking game heading into the season, the Tigers may look to bring in a kicker with this year's recruiting class. Mike Benzer is one of the top kickers in the state of Florida this year. He says the two schools showing the most interest are Clemson and Northwestern.
"I have received a lot of letters from Clemson. Several other schools have sent me some stuff, but Coach Blackwell has sent me quite a bit."
Benzer had a successful summer with strong performances at the Florida and Miami camps. He was seen making a 52 yard field goal off the ground at the Florida camp.
"I attended The University of Florida Camp June 14-16, and had no difficulty kicking off the ground during each practice session. I feel very confident kicking off the ground on a collegiate field."
Last season, Benzer was selected to second team All-State in 5-A. He converted 9-11 field goal attempts with a long of 50 yards, while converting 25-26 extra points. Benzer also added 26 touchbacks on kickoffs. This year, before a jamboree he was kicking field goals from the fifty yard line off the one inch tee.
Benzer excels off the field as well with a 3.35 GPA and a 1220 SAT score.
