State's Top Prospect Interviewed
Schools from across the country are calling North Augusta this season in hopes of landing big time prospect CJ Byrd.
Byrd has received offers from every ACC and SEC school with the exception of Miami. Also, Southern California, Oklahoma, Michigan, and Notre Dame are some others that have offered Byrd.
Byrd did not attend any camps this summer, and has left many desperate for a hint to where he could be headed. "I am still wide open. Hopefully, by the first of August I will start narrowing my list down."
Coach Ron West is recruiting Byrd for the Tigers. "I have a nice relationship with Coach West, but it has just been so long since I have been able to talk to any coaches because of rules."
Byrd has had an extremely busy summer. On top of all his workouts, he has been attending summer school. "I am taking English IV to raise my GPA up. I scored a 890 on the SAT." Most kids with a 3.1 GPA would not be going to summer school to raise their GPA, but Byrd is driven by his hunger to be the best in everything. "I have very high expectations of myself. I want to be a team leader, and a role model."
Clemson running back Reggie Merriweather is a former teammate of Byrd's. "Reggie has told me a lot of good things about Clemson. I am just looking at everything right now to see which school is the best fit for me."
Of all of the prospects we have interviewed this season Byrd is the toughest to tell when it comes to his favorites. He is truely wide open. Watch closely over the next couple of weeks, as we try and work out a date for Byrd to be on our radio show "The Overdrive".
