Elite dual-threat quarterback Dakereon Joyner was named South Carolina Gatorade Player of the Year on Monday.
Joyner finished his junior season with 3,642 passing yards with 44 passing touchdowns, ran for 1,089 yards and 12 scores. As a sophomore, he passed for 3,202 yards and 33 touchdowns, ran for 1,059 yards and 19 scores and was named MaxPreps national sophomore of the year as he led Fort Dorchester to its first state Class 4A title. In 2014, he was 43-92 for 3 touchdowns and 2 interceptions and also ran for 231 yards and a touchdown and had four receptions for 26 yards. He was named after the season as a 2014 MaxPreps Freshman All-American. Joyner is regarded as one of the top players in the state with Xavier Thomas, Josh Belk, and Stephen Wynn for the 2018 recruiting cycle. He has offers from Auburn, Clemson, Florida State, Georgia, Georgia Tech, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, West Virginia, and Virginia Tech. South Carolina's old coaching staff was actually the first school to offer. TigerNet watched him closely while at the 2015 Dabo Swinney Football camp and he is a very smooth athlete with tremendous upside with his zip on his throws and great lateral speed. Clemson offered on 6/10/15 while he was at the camp. He plans to enroll early to school in January of 2018.
