Clemson co-offensive coordinator Jeff Scott said after Thursday's scrimmage that true freshman tight end Garrett WilliamsGarrett Williams

"Jordan LeggettJordan Leggett

View Full Profile has improved a lot," Scott said. "Really pleased where he is, but Garrett brings something a little bit different to that group."
Williams might have a chance to play his freshman season instead of redshirting.
"Oh yeah. Coach Swinney will make his decisions as it goes," Scott said. "If he is a guy we play this year that means we got a lot of confidence that he can go in and have an impact and continue to grow within the offense."
Williams is a tight end with a good skillset who can block well and also catch the football on the perimeter.
"I think he does both well," Scott said. "We've had some guys around here that were more in that fullback mode that really that was their speciality, and maybe they were a liability when they got outside. But Garrett I think he has a good balance of both of those, and that is really what you are looking for in that position. We got some guys that maybe came in as receivers, big receivers and having to learn that way. We have some guys that came in as more of a heavy tight end and kind of having to grow in the passing game. Garrett is a guy who can do all those things pretty well. But again he is a freshman. He has got to have a chance to get some experience and get his feet wet. But he is a guy that there has kind of been a buzz around the building about him this fall camp."
Williams finished his senior season at First Academy (HS) with 128 carries for 1229 yards (9.6 ypg) and 21 rushing touchdowns. He also had 15 receptions for 256 yards and touchdown.
