Gus Malzahn on playing Clemson in 2016

by - Assoc. Editor -

Clemson will face Auburn at Jordan-Hare Stadium on Sept. 3 and Auburn coach Gus Malzahn addressed the upcoming matchup with the ACC Tigers.

"Any team in the (SEC) West, their strength of schedule is going to be at the top,” Malzahn said via the Alabama Newscenter. "Every year, we’ve played one of the toughest schedules – if not the toughest schedule. The goal is getting to Atlanta and winning that game, I think, pretty much assures that you’ll to be in the final four."

"We’re playing the two teams that played for the whole thing last year – one at the first of the year and one at the end of the year,” he said. “You’ve got to earn it."

It will be the first game for former Clemson defensive coordinator Kevin Steele as well as three other new coaches at Auburn.

The SEC Tigers were 7-6 this past season with a win against Memphis (9-4) in the 2015 Birmingham Bowl.

Clemson recently opened up as a 9.5 point road favorite against Auburn.
