Former Clemson walk-on becomes Chinese movie star |
Former Clemson walk-on defensive end Matthew Knowles from Greenville, S.C. has had an unexpected career turn after graduating at Clemson in 2008 with a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering.
Knowles was a volunteer teacher in rural China for two years after graduating and then was unexpectedly signed to a talent agency when he was discovered in Singapore. He is now one of the bigger celebrities in China with over one hundred television shows and tv series to his credit including Deng Xiao Ping, Eastern Battlefield and Love Me If You Dare. "Life is really funny sometimes and has a way of surprising you when you least expect it,” Knowles said via beforeitsnews.com. "After graduating, I went to the poorest area of China to teach English. This life-changing decision ultimately resulted in signing with my first agency, out of Singapore, and brought me to where I am today." Knowles is also currently starring in Red Sorghum, which is one of the most popular Chinese shows on television.
He was also the recipient of a Chinese Government Scholarship to be the first Caucasian ever to study acting at the prestigious Beijing Film Academy.
"It has been incredibly humbling, and I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to take part in so many films and televisions shows in addition to having studied at such a prestigious institution in China."
