Former Clemson standout claimed by Phillies

Former Clemson standout Richie Shaffer was claimed by the Philadelphia Phillies off of waivers on Wednesday.

Shaffer batted .250 with a homer and four RBIs with an on-base percentage of .315 this past season with the Tampa Bay Rays in 48 at-bats. In 2015, he batted .189 with four homers, six RBIs, and a .307 on-base percentage with the Rays his rookie season (31 games).

The former Clemson product was drafted by the Tampa Bay Rays in the first round (25th overall) of the 2012 First-Year Player Draft.
