Deshaun Watson injury update

Clemson junior quarterback Deshaun Watson had an impressive 13-yard run late in the second quarter against Syracuse. However, he stayed in one more play, and then Watson left the game holding his shoulder.

The trainers are looking at his right shoulder on the sidelines. He was sharp going 13-for-16 passing for 169 yards and two passing touchdowns while also having seven rushes for 39 yards and a rushing touchdown.

We will update you as soon as we have more information on Watson's injury situation.

Update: Watson is on the sidelines and the trainers were testing the flexibility of his shoulder while he was sitting on the bench.

Update 2: Watson is throwing the football on the sidelines.

Update 3: Watson headed to the locker room with the training staff as they look at his right shoulder.

Update 3: Swinney said during his halftime interview that he thinks it's muscular, possibly a stinger. He said that would know more after halftime.

Update 4: Clemson SID said that Deshaun Watson has a bruised shoulder and will not start the second half but is available if needed.

Update 5: Nick Schuessler started at quarterback coming out after halftime.

Update 6: Swinney said during the postgame interview with ESPN's Tom Luginbill that they were glad "they were able to hold" Watson from playing in the second half.

Update 7: Watson said during postgame interviews that he had ice on his shoulder but was feeling no pain after he left the game.

Update 8: "He was ready if we needed him," Swinney said during his postgame press conference. "Great to see Nick play and play well." He didn't play because it was 30-0 at halftime and we had control of the game. We played 85 guys today and it's a great reward for those to get a chance to go and play."

Swinney said that Watson has a bruised shoulder - "stinger type of deal in his shoulder area."
