by -

CLEMSON — The Clemson University Police Department (CUPD) was named 2014 Public Safety Agency of the Year among mid-sized law enforcement agencies (26-50 police officers) by the South Carolina Department of Public Safety.

The South Carolina Department of Public Safety recognizes officers and agencies for their work to uphold DUI laws and their efforts to remove impaired drivers from South Carolina roads including victim services and underage drinking prevention educational programs.

The CUPD made 68 DUI arrests in 2014.

The CUPD offers advanced training to any officer who wants to participate in programs related to DUI case preparation and prosecution. It also participates in campus educational campaigns about impaired driving and DUI laws, as well as presenting Alive at 25 programs.

“We are honored to receive this recognition,” Chief Johnson Link said. “We have worked hard in this area of enforcement and to be recognized for our efforts is very rewarding. The men and women of CUPD are to be congratulated for their efforts.”
