View Full Profile for Thursday’s ACC Tournament opener still isn’t known for sure, but head coach Brad Brownell said he hopes Smith will be ready.

Smith sustained the head injury with 9:38 left in Clemson’s game at Florida St. on Sunday, landing awkwardly on his neck. He was on the floor for about 30 seconds until the officials stopped play. He was administered a concussion test and went to the locker room before the game ended and did not return.

“I still don’t know,” Brownell said of Smith’s status. “I think he is going to be okay. I know he feels a little better today after talking with him this morning. I know he landed on his back a neck a little bit and took a great jolt. We are not practicing today, because we have guys beat up from the season. We need to heal up, but I am optimistic he will be able to practice a little bit by Wednesday and be able to go Thursday.”

Brownell said the team will know more about the possibility of a concussion by Monday afternoon.

“I know he had a headache from where he landed,” Brownell said. “I think he met with some people last night, but we are all waiting until this afternoon to gather some information and just see how he is.”
