ESPN's fan vote puts Clemson on upset alert |
No. 1 Clemson is a solid 9.5 point favorite against No. 7 Miami for the ACC Championship on Saturday night.
However, ESPN's fan vote has Miami coming out on top (55 percent) for the ACC Championship. The Hurricanes could likely win but I don't see how 55 percent voted for Miami with several key performers on offense missing from action. I could understand the poll if it were including Vegas spreads but this is forecasting a straight up win for the Hurricanes over the Tigers. Last week, this same poll had South Carolina defeating Clemson. In a national sample, 52 percent picked the Gamecocks over an elite Clemson team. It was possible that Clemson could have lost last week with a few turnovers but I have a hard time believing that the Gamecocks were a favorite across a sample of fans across the nation. Was this poll only conducted in Columbia, South Carolina? It could be that ESPN is just trying to drive up interest in these games and hoping that people think there is a possibility of an exciting upset. The other possibility is that the new fan poll is indeed accurate and the national audience thinks that Clemson will lay an egg against Miami and miss out on an ACC title and the prestigious College Football Playoff. U like the Canes Saturday night on ABC. Last week, the poll had South Carolina defeating Clemson even though all rationale signs pointed to a lopsided mismatch. We've got an upset in this week's @Wendys #RivalryBeef matchup!
