Deshaun Watson words to Kelly Bryant: "Go take it"

by - Staff Writer -

Deshaun Watson knows a thing or two about coming up big against Alabama.

Watson led efforts of over 1,000 combined total offensive yards and 37.5 points a game on the highly-regarded Crimson Tide defense in two matchups, clinching Clemson's second national title last season with a last-second connection to current Tigers receiver Hunter Renfrow.

Watson's advice to Kelly Bryant? The same mantra Bryant has followed all season: just be "Kelly B."

"Whatever you did to get ready to play all season, and whatever you did on the field, don't change that routine. Be the same guy," Watson told ESPN's Marty Smith in advice to Bryant. "It may require you to do it better, to do it harder, to want it more. But this (is) still football. You ain't new to this game, little brother. Go take it.”

Bryant was a reserve Tigers QB in each of those championship efforts against Alabama and takes a 12-1 record as a first-year starter into tonight's late kickoff versus Alabama (ESPN, 8:50 ET).

Down the stretch, the Calhoun Falls native and Wren product posted three of his best passing efforts of the season, with six touchdown passes to one interception while completing 74.1 percent of his throws for 251 yards per game.

Bryant rushed for 60 or more yards in six games, including 19 carries for 94 yards on the road at Virginia Tech. Taking out sacks, he has contributed 61.6 rushing yards a game and 5.3 yards per carry.
