Clemson ACC Tournament opponents set |
Editor's note: The ACC has provided a different interpretation of their tiebreakers to ACC media which changed one of Clemson's opponents for next week (explained below).
The ACC baseball regular-season schedule wrapped up Saturday, determining the final seeding for next week’s ACC Baseball Championship at Durham Bulls Athletic Park. Clemson (43-13, 22-8 ACC), after clinching the Atlantic Division Friday and a share of the ACC's best record Saturday, will be a 2-seed and play in a three-team pool with Miami (27-25, 16-13) and Notre Dame (24-28, 12-18). The full schedule with days and game-times will be announced on Sunday. The Tigers lost 2-of-3 at home versus Miami and took 2-of-3 at Notre Dame this season. The team with the best record out of the pool will advance to a single-elimination semifinal next Saturday with hopes of making a championship final on Sunday (12 p.m./ESPN2). The winner in Clemson’s pool will face the winner of Pool C (NC State - 40-14; Florida State - 39-17; Virginia - 28-24) in a 5 p.m. (approx.) semifinal game. All of the pool-play and semifinal games will be televised on RSN and ACC Network Extra. The ACC had five teams in the latest D1Baseball.com Top 25, in NC State (4), North Carolina (7), Clemson (8), Duke (10) and Florida State (11). In 2016, Clemson won its first ACC tournament since the conference’s move to pool play under Monte Lee’s leadership. Florida State won the tournament last season after finishing runner-up in 2016. 2018 ACC Tournament seeds 1. North Carolina (37-17, 22-8 ACC) 2. Clemson (43-13, 22-8) 3. NC State (40-14, 19-11) 4. Duke (34-20, 18-11) 5. Louisville (40-16, 18-12) 6. Florida State (39-17, 16-13) 7. Miami (27-25, 16-13) 8. Georgia Tech (31-25, 14-16) 9. Wake Forest (25-30, 13-17) 10. Virginia (28-24, 12-18) 11. Notre Dame (24-28, 12-18) 12. Pittsburgh (27-25, 11-19) ACC Tournament Pools Pool A: North Carolina, Georgia Tech, Pittsburgh Pool B: Clemson, Miami, Notre Dame Pool C: NC State, Florida State, Virginia Pool D: Duke, Louisville, Wake Forest (While the ACC tiebreaker rules seem to point to Notre Dame grabbing the No. 10 seed and Virginia slipping to No. 11 within Clemson's pool, this is the explanation provided for the reverse in the ACC's interpretation of the tiebreaker: As I understand it, this rule explains why #UVA and not ND is No. 10 seed. So essentially, Clemson's series with Notre Dame and Virginia are thrown out from the tiebreaker because Clemson finished tied with UNC.)
• Clemson and UNC finished 22-8. ND didn’t play UNC, so down the list.
• #UVA didn’t play NC State (19-11).
• #Hoos went 1-2 vs Duke (18-11). Duke swept ND. Advantage: UVA. pic.twitter.com/Hq3vBqxPCv
