Clemson opened the 2005 men’s basketball season with an 84-55 victory over Bethune-Cookman. Shawan Robinson led the Tigers in scoring with 18 points on the night.

The Tigers jumped on the Wildcats early in the game. Bethune-Cookman opened the game with 2-0 lead, the Clemson went on a 29-1 run. Sophomore Sam Perry sparked the Tigers early. Perry scored his first two points, off of an offensive rebound. Then Perry got the crowd in the game with a two-hand highlight reel dunk. The Tigers would push to a 57-17 halftime lead.

Cliff Hammonds (13) and Perry (14) were the only of the Tigers to score in double figures on the night.

Clemson was able to hit 9 3-pointers on the evening led by Robinson with four. Freshmen Troy Mathis and KC Rivers both connected on two 3-pointers on the night.

With a 40-point halftime lead, the Tigers cooled off in the second half. The Tigers had issues with turnovers in the second half, and they were also unable to cash in on opportunities at the foul line.

It was a good start to the 2005 season and the Tigers return to action Monday night at 7:30 against Coppin State.
