Is it fair to criticize the decision to start Berken over Cribb against Fullerton?
Fair, yes, but it will not change anything. Personally, I would have given Cribb the nod, but Leggett and O’Sullivan had pushed the right buttons all year. It was an all or nothing situation in Omaha, and Berken was going to have to one win for the Tigers, possibly two. Understand this, as frustrated as the fans maybe, just think how Cribb feels. He was one of the biggest competitors on this club, and I truly feel sorry for him that he did not get the chance to take the mound in Omaha.
What are the chances D’Alessio, Faris, and Smith return?
I am 75% sure Smith will be back in a Tiger uniform next season. He could improve his status significantly. Smith has to show a little more patience at the plate, and his numbers could really soar. The coaching staff is confident Faris will return. I am gonna put Faris at 60/40 return, right now. D’Alessio is 50/50. Going into the draft, I thought he would go much higher. Defensively, their may not be a better first baseman in college baseball. D’Alessio was near flawless at the bag this season. If he cuts down on the strikeouts next season, he could easily be a top three round pick.
Any idea at what next year’s line-up could be?
Here is best guess:
1-DJ Mitchell RF
2-Brad Chalk CF
3-Taylor Harbin 2B
4-Marquez Smith 3B
5-Andy D’Alessio or Alex Burg 1B
6-Stan Widmann SS
7-Alex Burg DH
8-Wilson Boyd LF
9-Doug Hogan or Buddy Monroe C
SP-Sean Clark, PJ Zocchi, Ryan Hinson or Stephen Faris
Any commitments on the horizon to feed the hungry during downtime?
Marcus Gilchrist is closing in on a decision, and Clemson appears to be a very strong contender there. Ryan Houston could do something by the end of the summer, but in my opinion, Clemson needs to prolong the battle for Houston. Travian Robertson will make a decision by the end of the summer, but there is not a good read on his status.
