Tye Hill Wins ACC Title in Sprints

CLEMSON, SC - The Clemson men's track and field team finished second
at the 2004 ACC Indoor Track and Field Championships held this
weekend at the Clemson Indoor Track and Field Championships. Rick
Hill, Tye Hill and Adam Linkenauger led the Tigers on day two with
individual titles in the heptathlon, 60m dash and high jump,

Tye Hill led the Tiger sprinters with his time of 6.73 in the 60m
dash, winning his first ACC crown. The 60m title was the seventh
consecutive for Clemson, which has not lost a 60m race since 1998
when the event was added to the conference meet. Ronald Richards and
Airese Currie also scored in the 60m dash, finishing third and fourth
with times of 6.82 and 6.86, respectively. Richards earned his
second All-ACC accolade of the day in the 200m, finishing second with
a time of 21.54. Hill also earned all-conference honors, posting a
time of 21.61 to place third. Currie scored for Clemson with a
seventh-place finish and time of 22.26. Roy Cheney placed third in
the 60m hurdles with a season-best and provisional qualifying time of
7.93, and Lydell Perry and Rick Hill were fifth and seventh to add
points to Clemson's tally. Derrick Wyatt scored for Clemson in the
3000m, clocking a season-best time of 8:27.27. The Tigers' 4x400m
relay team of Lydell Perry, Ronald Richards, Marquis Andrews and
Cheney finished third with a time of 3:16.50.

Freshman Adam Linkenauger captured the ACC high jump title in his
first conference meet, clearing a career-best and provisional
qualifying mark of 7'2.25". Ryan Koontz and Ben Daniels each cleared
6'9" to place fifth and sixth. Jason Bell was the Tigers' top
performer in the triple jump, recording a season-best mark of
49'0.25". Brit Barrow placed eighth in the triple jump, recording
another season-best mark of 48'3.5".

Senior Rick Hill won the inaugural ACC heptathlon and automatically
qualified for the NCAA Championships with 5,528 points. The native
of Chapel Hill, NC, finished strong in the 1000m run to grab the
first conference title in the event added to the conference meet this
year. Three other Tigers scored in the heptathlon. Sophomore Brent
Hobbs earned All-ACC honors with his runner-up finish and provisional
qualifying score of 5,393 points. Senior Ryan Hunter finished fourth
with 5,179 points, another provisional qualifying total, and
sophomore Ryan Koontz tallied 5,107 points to take sixth place.

Clemson men's track and field returns to action next Saturday as the
Tigers host the Clemson Classic.
