Golf Ranked Third in Final Polls |
Clemson, SC - Clemson is ranked third in the nation in the final
rankings of the two major college golf polls. The Tigers, who finished second in the nation at the NCAAs last weekend at Duke, finished third in the MasterCard and GolfWeek computer rankings. Georgia was first and Georgia Tech second in each poll. Florida, who won the National Championship, was fourth in GolfWeek and fifth in MasterCard. Indivdually, John Engler ranked fourth in the nation in both final polls. This is the highest final ranking ever by a Clemson golfer. The previous best was a number-five final ranking by Charles Warren in 1996-97. Classmate Lucas Glover was ranked sixth by MasterCard and seventh by GolfWeek. D.J. Trahan, who was Clemson's top performer at the NCAA National Tournament with a seventh place finish, was 25th in the final MasterCard poll and 34th in the final GolfWeek poll. Freshman Gregg Jones was ranked 94th in the final Golfweek ranking.
