CLEMSON, SC – On Christmas night Clemson received one last present when North Augusta running back Reggie Merriweather decided to commit to the Tigers.

The 5-10, 190-pound, North Augusta senior had an enormous season this year with over 2500 yards and 30 touchdowns. In a 49-42 win over Lexington, Merriweather broke his own school record, rushing for a career-high 406 yards and recording six touchdowns. Merriweather who runs a 4.6 40 was selected to play in the 2001 Shrine Bowl and had 1,869 yards with 18 touchdowns as a junior.

“Merriweather is a nice back because of his versatility,” said recruiting analyst Mickey Plyler of MickyPlyler.com. ”He runs the draw out of the shotgun very well because of his patience. Merriweather has the strength to break tackles and yards after contact is a key to his success.”

Merriweather had said for weeks that Clemson and Florida were dead even at the top of his list, but Tuesday evening he decided to commit to the Tigers.

"Clemson is a great school, and it is just two hours from home," said Merriweather in an interview with Plyler. "To me it is a perfect fit. I love the coaches, and Coach Rick Stockstill has always been a great guy. My parents liked Clemson from the start, and I feel comfortable there.”

Merriweather chose the Tigers over Indiana, Florida, Michigan State, Wake Forest and North Carolina. Merriweather says he will still visit the Gators on January 18. His Clemson visit is set for January 11.
