On the win

"I was really pleased with the team not giving up, even though we played poorly offensively. The last drive we were four out of five and Charlie Whitehurst threw for around 65 yards. Defensively, you just can't say enough. That's the way they used to win games around here. I don't mind winning games 10-7, but I wish we were a little more productive on offensive. Ten to seven is a tremendous boost for our defense. They had one 17-yard drive on the blocked punt and then other than that, Maryland doesn't do anything."

On scoring drives

"I think the drive right before half-time was 17 plays, but in the second half we just didn't play very smart. We had some penalties. Maryland has a good defense. You just can't overcome that. We have to play a lot smarter Thank goodness our defense stepped it up a notch. There were just a couple drives on offense where we put points on the board."

On protection

"The type of protection we were using had been a fairly productive protection against Maryland as shown by other teams. They saw what we were doing and they had seen it so much in the last few weeks that I'm sure they worked hard on it. We saw the adjustment and didn't come back with one of our own quick enough. We tried something different on the last drive to get Whitehurst a little more protection."

On special teams play

"Cole Chason had seven consecutive punts over 40 yards. Yusef Kelly had three tackles on punt coverage and Jad Dean hits a field goal that ended up being a huge play."

On Reggie Merriweather

"We are seeing some separation beginning to take play at some of the skill positions. Airese Currie might have had five catches and had a good game. Kelvin Grant also had a couple. Reggie did really well and it looks like he had accepted the challenge."
