’s camp two weeks ago, a visit that opened the Miami commitment’s eyes, according to his high school head coach.

Kearse is a multi-talented prospect out of Fort Myers (FL) South Fort Myers, the same school that produced Clemson receiver Sammy Watkins. The 6-4, 195-pounder is a 4-star prospect that stood out during Swinney’s camp.

His head coach at South Fort Myers, Grant Redhead, said the Clemson visit led to Kearse de-committing from Miami so he could make sure he made the right decision.

Kearse has already committed to two schools during his recruiting process – he first committed to Auburn last August, then de-committed from Auburn and committed to hometown Miami in January.

“Going to Clemson opened his eyes to what else was out there,” Redhead told TigerNet. “So, he wanted to make sure he made a well-informed decision. They [Miami] told him that he still had a spot and it is still there. But he wanted to take some more visits and check out some other places and make sure he made the right decision. He loved it at Clemson. He took it all in, and when he got home he weighed the pros and cons, and said he needed to re-think some things.”

Redhead took his rising senior out to Los Angeles this week for Southern Cal’s Rising Stars camp, and he said Kearse was impressed with the Trojans.

“We just got back from USC,” he said. “He had a good time. Southern Cal is like Clemson – it is a place that impresses you. He knows he has a lot to think about.”

He said that Kearse has almost unlimited potential.

“He is a very, very good player right now,” Redhead said. “His potential is off the charts, and he will get bigger. He has speed and agility and can compete in space. He can make tackles around the box, he can make tackles on the outside, or he can cover receivers. He has a lot of versatility.

As a junior at Cypress Lake High School – where he played before transferring - Kearse rushed for 1,473 yards and 17 touchdowns on offense. He added 35 tackles and two interceptions on defense. As a sophomore, he played quarterback, rushing for 1,049 yards and 13 touchdowns. He also threw for five scores.

Kearse recently went public with his top five – a list that consists of Auburn, Miami, Clemson, USC and Notre Dame, in no particular order. Kearse has now visited Miami, Clemson and Southern Cal this spring and early summer, and plans trips to Auburn and Notre Dame later this summer.
