Dorman's Humphries commits to Tigers

CLEMSON – The 2011 recruiting class for head coach Dabo Swinney’s Clemson Tigers grew by one more Saturday afternoon, bringing the total to 10 when Dorman wide receiver/safety Adam Humphries picked up the phone to let wide receivers coach Jeff Scott and Swinney know that he planned to be a Tiger.

Humphries visited Clemson this past week, and the Tigers made an offer to the 5-11, 176-pounder, and he said at that time he told Swinney he would take some time to think about it.

“When I got the offer on Wednesday, I told Coach Swinney that I would go home and think about it and pray about it,” Humphries told TigerNet Saturday afternoon. “I just wanted to make sure that I made the right decision, and when I made the decision, I called Coach Scott, and he handed the phone to Coach Swinney, and I told him it was official, that I was going to play for Clemson.”

Humphries averaged 15.5 yards per catch for the Cavaliers last season, and had 13 punt returns for 186 yards and a touchdown. On defense, he had three interceptions, including two against Gaffney in the state playoffs, to go along with 30 tackles and four tackles for loss, which included two sacks.

Humphries, who wears No. 13 for the Cavaliers, runs a 4.55-second forty-yard dash, and he said when he was at Clemson, he kept hearing that he reminded of another No. 13 – Tyler Grisham.

“When I went on my visit there, everybody was telling me that I am the next Tyler Grisham,” he said. “That is a great, and I want to strive to be like him, but honestly, my goal is to be better than him. I think I can play both ways and I can play special teams. I can be a good inside receiver, and I will go hard every single play. I will also work hard off the field and try to be a good leader to have on the team.”

Humphries said that there was no way he could resist everything that Clemson has to offer.

“I have been a Clemson fan for awhile now, and I have loved it up there since the time I went to my first game,” he said. “When I went on my visit, it just kind of made my mind up because of what they have to offer. The atmosphere on game day is great, and every single coach I met was nice. They are like a family, and they all work together. That is the kind of team I want to play for.”

By playing for a winning program at Dorman, Humphries said he expects to win at the next level, too, and he believes Clemson is a place that he can do that.

“I think Coach Swinney is just a great coach and he has everything under control,” he said. “When I went up there and met the players, and saw the workouts, I saw that the program was where it needed to be. It is headed in the right direction.”
