Clemson, SC-Clemson quarterback Woodrow Dantzler and linebacker Chad
Carson will play on the East team in the East-West Shrine Game on
Saturday. The contest will begin at 1:30 PM eastern time in Palo
Alto, CA and it will be televised on ESPN-2.

This will be the first of two college all-star games for
Dantzler. He will also play in the Senior Bowl in Mobile, AL on
January 26th. Clemson defensive back Charles Hafley will play in the
Gridiron Classic in Orlando on January 26th.

Dantzler became the first quarterback in NCAA history to pass
for over 2000 yards and rush for over 1000 this past season and he
led the Tigers to a 7-5 record and a Humanitarian Bowl victory over
Louisiana Tech. He left Clemson with 53 school records. The
first-team All-ACC quarterback became just the third quarterback in
NCAA history to pass for 5000 yards and rush for over 2500 in a
career.

Carson led the Tigers in tackles this year with 137, and he
finished his career with 449, fifth best in school history. He was a
first-team Academic All-American for the second straight year. He
was also the only Division I college football player to reach the
finals of the Rhodes Scholarship competition.

Clemson's Young Named to All-Bowl Team

Clemson, SC-Clemson center Kyle Young was named to Sports
Illustrated's All-bowl team. The announcement of the entire team was
released in the magazine's January 7, 2002 issue.

Young helped the Clemson offense gain 548 yards of total
offense and score 49 points in the 49-24 victory over Louisiana Tech
in the Humanitarian Bowl on December 31. Those were both Clemson
bowl game records. Young, who was making his 40th consecutive start
for the Tigers, his 36th in a row at center, had a 91 percent grade
and 18 knockdown blocks in his final game as a Tiger.

Young was a third-team All-American this year and finished
the season with a school record 168 knockdown blocks. He was a
two-time on-field All-American and three-time first-team Academic
All-American. He is just the second offensive lineman in college
football history to be named first-team Academic All-American in
three different seasons.

Young was one of four ACC players named to Sports
Illustrated's All-Bowl team. The others were Florida State offensive
guard Montrae Holland, North Carolina defensive tackle Ryan Sims and
Georgia Tech defensive end Daryl Smith.
