Dabo Swinney after practice audio (MP3 Format)

CLEMSON – The Clemson Tigers completed day three of practice for the South Carolina Gamecocks Wednesday afternoon, the sound of piped-in crowd noise carrying over an almost-empty campus.

Head coach Dabo Swinney said the noise was an effort to get the team prepared for a raucous Saturday night crowd in Williams-Brice.

“That’s part of it. You are always trying to prepare these guys,” Swinney said. “It will be loud and rocking, and it’s at night. We have had a few of those down there since I’ve been here, so you try to prepare them the best you can from a concentration, snap count and cadence standpoint.”

The good news coming out of the practice was that left tackle Phillip Price took part in the live practice, and Swinney said Price should be able to start Saturday.

“Today is a day that we got to see some guys do live work,” he said. “We got to see Price. I was anxious to see him move around. I expect him to play. Based on what I saw today, I think he can help us. I was encouraged by that. Today we cut him loose and he did really good. You can't even tell anything was wrong with him. That is not a position you can hide guys. We wouldn’t play him if we didn’t have confidence he can do everything we need him to do.”

Swinney said that senior David Smith will probably start at left guard.

“We will probably start David Smith. He played really well last week and was our lineman of the week,” Swinney said. “You will see him start the game, but Brandon {Thomas] will play a lot, and could play some tackle and guard.”

Receiver Sammy Watkins has been in pads all week, and Swinney said he has taken part in practice and every drill and is “excited to get back out there.”

The team will practice early Thursday, eat a Thanksgiving meal together and then head to Columbia on Friday.
