Class of 2019 wide receiver recaps visit, path to an offer

Wide receiver Nolan Groulx of Davidson (NC) Davidson Day visited Clemson this past weekend for junior day, and he hopes a burgeoning relationship with the coaches leads to a Clemson offer.

The Class of 2019 prospect has offers from Central Michigan, Elon, James Madison, NC State, Wake Forest, West Virginia, and Notre Dame. Even though he doesn’t have one from Clemson, Groulx got to experience Clemson with one of his closest friends, Tyus Fields.

Fields is the 2019 cornerback out of Cornelius (NC) William Amos Hough who not only holds a Clemson offer; he’s the younger brother of current Clemson cornerback Mark Fields.

“I went down there with Tyus Fields who is one of my close friends and already has an offer from them,” Groulx said. “I have a good relationship with the wide receivers coach (Jeff Scott), and he said he heard a lot about me, and he liked my film a lot. Clemson is the type of school that wants to get to know you and not just throw out offers, so I just have to get a better relationship with them and hopefully it’ll all work out.”

Clemson’s new operations facility has been very popular, and it was nothing short of awesome for this North Carolina native as well. He told Tigernet that other than the family atmosphere, the new complex stood out to him the most.

“Their new facility opened a few weeks before we got there and that was insane. They had putt-putt courses, basketball courts, and all the games you could ask for and it was just crazy,” Groulx said. “Obviously nothing matches that in the country. Also, the type of people stood out. All of the coaches and the family atmosphere Clemson has is awesome to me. For about an hour, Dabo (Swinney) talked to all of the recruits and the way he approaches everything makes me like what Clemson is about.”

The junior day participants got to watch practice, something that was interesting to Groulx because he got to see two familiar Tigers that he knows.

“Yeah, we watched practice. There was a good amount of people watching their practice,” he said. “I know Van Smith and Mark Fields. It was cool to watch them go at it in all of the one on ones and everything and just to see how the wide receiver coach coached the receivers.”

The next time he will be in Clemson will be for the spring game with his father.

“Coach Scott wants me to come back up for the spring game. My dad and I will be coming to that,” Groulx said. “It will be good for me to continue building my relationship with Jeff Scott and Coach (Danny) Pearman. Coach Pearman also has my area, and I was able to talk to him a lot, too. These coaches aren’t ones to throw out offers, but they do like my film a lot.”

Groulx has caught 124 passes for 2,144 yards - an average of 17.3 yards per catch - in his high school career.
