Buckner Releases New College Football Poll

by -

Greenville, SC--Brentson Buckner's latest college top 25 poll has two new teams. The starting defensive tackle for the Carolina Panthers in his 12th year in the NFL has moved Notre Dame, Georgia Tech and Clemson into his weekly top 25. Buckner is the only active NFL player who has a vote in the Harris Interactive poll, the new poll that the BCS will use in determining the teams that will compete in the four major bowls at the end of the college season.

Notre Dame, Clemson and Georgia Tech were all unranked teams that defeated ranked opponents in the first weekend of the college season. The Irish stopped Pittsburgh on the road by a 42-21 score in Charlie Weis's first game as Irish head coach. Georgia Tech ended Auburn's 15-game winning streak with a road win under quarterback Reggie Ball.

Clemson, Buckner's alma mater, upset 17th ranked Texas A&M in Death Valley, 25-24 when kicker Jad Dean converted his sixth and final field goal with just two seconds left. Buckner had the weekend off and viewed the entire game from the Clemson sidelines. He will post his comments on the game on his internet site, brentsonbuckner.com, today. View Buckner's Clemson commentary online at http://www.brentsonbuckner.com/buckshots.html.

Buckner continued to rank Southern Cal number-one and Texas number-two. The Longhorns play sixth ranked Ohio State this Saturday night in Columbus, so there is sure to be some shuffling in his poll next week. View Buckner's entire poll below or by visiting http://www.brentsonbuckner.com/harris.html.

Buckner and the Panthers open the NFL season this Sunday against New Orleans. He will post his comments on that game on his website on Sunday evening.
