Bowden Sits Rambert, Five Others; Eason Likely Out for FSU |
CLEMSON - One day after saying he was "encouraged" by running back Bernard
Rambert's progress in his battle with tendonitis, Clemson head coach Tommy Bowden did an about face and decided to sit Rambert and five others for a few more days. Rambert, fullback Chad Jasmin (groin), defensive tackles Nick Eason (knee) and Todd McClinton (ankle), defensive end Khaleed Vaughn (ankle) and linebacker Eric Sampson (bruised thigh) won't practice Thursday, which will give them an additional three days of rest before Sunday's practice. The Tigers are off Friday and Saturday. "I ain't doing nothing with them until Sunday," Bowden said. "I want to see if I can get them completely healthy. Maybe we can get three days with them (before Florida State). I need to see a little spring and bounce in their legs. "I just decided to change my approach." The accumulation of bumps and bruises after four weeks would be enough reason for such a decision, but the fact that Clemson doesn't have another off date the remainder of the season - the break after the Thursday night North Carolina State game (Oct. 24) is just eight days - also factored into the decision. Meanwhile, after hinting around the subject for the past couple of days, Bowden all but said Eason would miss the Florida State game. "He would be the only one that's probably out," Bowden said. "Chad would probably be next closest." Clemson will follow Thursday's three-hour, full pad session with the aforementioned two days off. Players are excused after Friday's classes and must return to campus for Sunday's practice. Dan Scott covers Clemson University for the Florence Morning News.
