Bellamy icing on the cake after big recruiting weekend

CLEMSON – Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney and the Tigers had quite a weekend, picking up three big commitments for the 2011 recruiting class, the icing on the cake coming on Sunday when five star running back Mike Bellamy (5-10 180) of Punta Gorda, FL committed to the Tigers while on campus for an unofficial visit.

Bellamy is rated as the third-best running back in the country and the 13th overall prospect in the nation after rushing for 2153 yards on 219 carries last season, a 9.9 yards per rush average. He is the 12th commitment for Clemson in the 2011 recruiting class.

Some of Bellamy's other offers were Alabama, Arkansas, California, Florida State, Kentucky, LSU, Michigan, Notre Dame, Tennessee, Southern Cal, Georgia and Florida.

Bellamy told TigerNet on Sunday afternoon that he fell in love with Clemson from the moment he stepped on campus.

“It’s a great place and I just fell in love with it,” Bellamy said. “I like all of the coaches, and I like how they know how to get the ball into the hands of their playmakers, like C.J. Spiller last year. [Offensive coordinator] Coach Napier knows how to create mismatches. It’s a good fit for me.”
