4-star linebacker likes what he sees at Clemson

Clemson was the first to offer Tre Lamar, and after a Friday visit to campus the Tigers have entrenched themselves amongst the 2016 linebacker’s favorites.

View Full Profile was the first to offer the 6-3, 230-pound Roswell (GA) linebacker in January, and since then the four-star prospect has made two trips to campus to get a better feel for what the Tigers have to offer.

Lamar made the short trip to Clemson Friday and spent the day touring the facilities as well as seeing what a day in the life of a Clemson football player during fall camp is like.

“It went really well. I enjoyed it,” Lamar told TigerNet Friday night after the visit. “First, I met with Coach Swinney and a couple of the other coaches and then I got to sit in on a couple of the team meetings - the linebacker meeting. After that, I went on a tour of the campus and then I finished up watching practice.”

View Full Profile , but seeing his coaching style took Lamar’s opinion to a different level.

“I definitely like Coach Venables,” Lamar said. “I've liked him since I came down for junior day. I've got a pretty good relationship with him. I like his coaching style and how he goes about things. He has a very hands on approach and gets his point across.”

The Rivals No. 86 prospect of the 2016 class has offers from Alabama, Clemson, Georgia Tech, Miami (FL), Michigan State, Mississippi St., North Carolina, South Carolina, Vanderbilt, Virginia Tech and Wisconsin, among others. However, a few schools already stick out as his favorites.

“They [Clemson] are definitely among the top that I'm looking at now,” Lamar said. “Right now, if I had to say a couple of schools that are recruiting me the hardest, it would be Clemson, Alabama, Mississippi State and Vanderbilt.”

Lamar said that he will make a return trip to Clemson in the fall to see a game; however he is unsure which game he will attend.

At Roswell, Lamar plays outside linebacker but he said he could see himself playing inside at the next level.

“I think I'm an inside backer - someone who can definitely play sideline to sideline and fill gaps, too,” Lamar said. “That's how I see my playing style.”
