He reinstated the basketball program at the NAIA Division I level, then brought the program to NCAA Division III. LaRoche was l5-10 in Driscoll's last season as a head coach, tying the school record for victories in a season. La Roche was 15-5 that year against Division III teams.

Driscoll began his coaching career as the head coach at his high school alma mater, Northgate High School in Pittsburgh, in 1988-89. He then served as an assistant coach at Butler County Community college for two seasons, including a state championship campaign in 1992. In 1992-93 he served as an assistant coach at his collegiate alma mater, Slippery Rock University.

Driscoll earned a bachelor of science degree in elementary education from Slippery Rock (PA) University in 1992. He has completed course work on a master's in elementary education with an emphasis in mathematics.

Driscoll was the captain of his Northgate High School team in 1982-83 and also played a year at Butler County Community College and a year at Greensboro College in North Carolina.
