Basketball Signs Jamar McKnight

by -

CLEMSON, SC - Jamar McKnight, a 6-5 wing player from Zachery, La., has signed a national letter of intent with the Clemson men's basketball program. The junior college transfer is slated to join the Clemson program in August. He will have two years of eligibility.

McKnight averaged 20 points and six rebounds a game for Northwest Community College in Mississippi this past season. A fine shooter, he connected on 79 percent of his free throws, 52 percent of his field goals and 39 percent (39-100) on three-point attempts. McKnight, who led Northwest Community College to a 22-8 record and runnerup finish in the state junior college tournament, was named all-state, All-North State and All-Region this past year.

"We are thrilled to add Jamar McKnight to an already talented class," said Tiger Head Coach Larry Shyatt. "He is a versatile player who can help us at all three perimeter positions next year. We found him to be a mature individual. He will be an asset to our young team this coming season."

McKnight is the first Tiger signee in the spring signing period. He will join three other future Clemson Tigers who signed with Clemson in the Fall. That group includes, Dwon Clifton, a 6-4 guard from High Point, NC; Chris Hobbs, a 6-7 forward from Chapel Hill, NC; and Tony Stockman, a 6-1 guard from Medina, OH.

Stockman was named co-Mr. Basketball in Ohio this past season when he averaged 25.5 points a game. Clifton was a first-team AP All-State selection in North Carolina. Hobbs missed the entire regular season of his senior year with a torn ACL, but returned for the state tournament and has played in all-star games this spring.
