Tigers Picked Second in ACC Preseason Poll

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Atlantic Coast Conference's nine head

coaches selected Georgia Tech as the unanimous top pick to win the

conference championship in 2001. The Yellow Jackets return nine

starters from their 2000 squad which captured the ACC Championship Title

as well as the regular season crown and finished the season 50-16.

Georgia Tech tallied 81 points, including all nine first place votes.

Clemson comes in second with 69 points, twelve behind preseason

favorite Georgia Tech. The Tigers finished 51-18, 17-7 in the league

last season and ended the 2000 season with a trip to the College World

Series.

The Florida State Seminoles fill the third place slot with 64

points, while Wake Forest placed fourth in the balloting with 55 points.

The Demon Deacons were followed by North Carolina and NC State who tied

for fifth place with 40 points each. Virginia was selected to finish

seventh with 26 points, Duke eighth with 18 points and Maryland ninth

with 12 points.
