Clemson, SC—Former Clemson All-American Tyler Colvin socked his 17th home run of the season Wednesday afternoon in the Cubs 15-3 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers at Wrigley Field.

Colvin now leads the Major Leagues in home runs among rookies with 17, two ahead of Ike Davis of the New York Mets. Colvin’s total is actually tied for second among former Clemson players in Major League history. Khalil Greene hit 27 home runs for the San Diego Padres in 2007 and that is the only total higher than Colvin’s among former Tigers.

In addition to his first-place ranking in home runs among rookies, he is tied for fourth in triples with three, fourth in slugging percentage at .530, fifth in runs scored with 44, sixth in total bases with 137 and sixth in RBIs with 39.

Colvin was a first-round draft choice of the Cubs in 2006 after helping the Tigers to the College World Series. He was a first-team All-American according to Baseball America and NCBWA that year when he hit .356 with 13 home runs and 70 RBIs. Colvin hit 20 home runs in 186 games in his Clemson career. He already has 17 in 105 games in his Major League career.
