Tigers over Buckeyes? Chance to win title sways Wallace

K'Von Wallace picked Clemson over Ohio St. and Cincinnati Wednesday morning during a signing ceremony at his school, a choice he made with one big goal in mind.

He wants to win a national championship, and he felt like Clemson gives him that chance.

Wallace, a 3-star secondary prospect out of Highland Springs (VA), put on a Clemson hat during the ceremony, ending a frantic month of recruiting that saw the Tigers and Buckeyes jump into the fray. Clemson lost five members of the secondary following the title game loss to Alabama and offered the Cincinnati commitment late.

It didn’t matter because Clemson had everything Wallace wanted out of a school.

“The new football facilities. Just being around the Clemson family and the players and coaches were all reason,” Wallace told TigerNet. “I love the energy from Dabo Swinney. There's an opportunity to play early, as well. It's a very small university, so it's easy to stay away from trouble.”

Wallace visited Clemson late last week and then took a weekend visit to Ohio St. to visit the Buckeyes, the team he rooted for growing up. However, he left the campus in Columbus thinking that Ohio St. didn’t measure up to Clemson.

“I had to think about it after I took my Ohio State visit,” Wallace said. “I loved Ohio State, and it was my dream school, but position wise and where they're going I just knew I wanted to win a national championship next year at Clemson.”

Wallace committed to Cincinnati last summer and stayed committed until breaking the news to the Bearcat coaches in the last few days.

“I told them thank you for the opportunity to attend a major university, but I would be going to Clemson instead and that I would be furthering my education there and that it was the best opportunity for me,” Wallace said of his conversation with the Cincinnati coaches. “They were heartbroken, but it's for me and not them.”

What kind of player are the Tigers getting?

“They're getting a ball hawk and a person that will get after it. An amazing athlete,” he said. “A great student. A great person. A great competitor. A person who is willing to learn and do anything for them.”

Wallace then said he wants to use his skills to help the Tigers win a title, something he knows will happen over the next few seasons.

“Definitely. I have no doubt in my mind that we will win a national championship next year and the year after that,” Wallace said. “We have an amazing recruiting class. It's amazing. Hopefully, we get Rashan Gary, the number one player in the nation.”
