Regarding the massive ALIEN structure spotted in space.

So NASA is apparently saying that they are legitimately considering aliens as a possible reason for some structure spotted in space some 1500 light years away.

1 problem. If it WERE aliens, they would need to have survived 1500 years after whatever we see.
They could be alive.
They could be extinct.
They could have developed into a massive interstellar superpower bent on multiple world dominations.
They could have devolved as a society after a devastating nuclear war.
It might not even be aliens.
etc.

Fact of the matter is this. The universe is so big that we can literally see into the past without knowing the present (when looking great distances away)
It's like taking a picture of yourself and mailing it to someone. They are seeing you 2 or 3 days ago.
So even if it is alien, there is no guarantee what state they are currently in.
Furthermore, assuming we found out it were alien and developed a light speed spacecraft that could slow down and speed up with out killing the passengers, we would still need over 1500 years to get there. Considerably more when factoring in those acceleration times. So when we would get there it would have been 3000 years from when we first saw them. 1. It would need to be a multi-multi-multi generational spacecraft. 2. It would need incredible amounts of room for the storage of food and fuel. 3. Traveling at that speed presents tremendous trouble with avoiding contact with any space debris (any size object could prove disastrous). 4. The crew after 1 or 2 generations will begin to question the trip, will be potentially more curious about the EARTH they have never seen and all of the things about it. The trip will have to be a DUTY and one they may abandon. Is it even ethical or possible to send people on a trip like this. We could send AI which is not developed yet either but they won't represent the CURRENT US but rather the us from 1500 years ago, when they make contact with the alien civilization that may or may not even be there anymore. Any return trip with the info would then take another 1500 years. sigh.

Ultimately, unless we develop some kind of warp drive that bends space AND time and allows for travel across much greater distances, it is pointless for us to even look that far.

How do we know it hasn't snuck up on us in those last 1500 years and its actually hiding behind the moon?

EXACTLY! Maybe we should start developing an international global satellite defense system. Something like in halo 2.

What if they snuck onto earth and the movie Men in Black was a way to desensitize us to extra-terrestrial life.

Holy #### a cover up!!!

Starting to worry about the whole esoteric hitlersim thing... maybe when hitler returns with his alien superforce FDR will as well. The wheel chair was a ploy and he is just like Harrison Wells like in the FLASH TV series.

Even if we can't get there or the aliens are extinct now, we can still make observations of their structures as they were 1500 years ago.

But why, all we can see is odd light changes. It's not like we are seeing great detail. I understand human curiousity but we should probably catalog it, check in every now and again and move on to scanning more locally. Then if the tech ever becomes a reality, we can explore further.

We will be able to see more when the new generation of telescopes are built in a few years such as the European Extremely Large Telescope and the James Webb Space Telescope.

If anything is worth studying, this would be it. If there is even the smallest chance it is indeed alien, that would be the biggest discovery to this point. Not sure how you would brush that off.

Mind blown.

You're forgetting a few things...

[1]
Posted: Oct 15, 2015 2:11 PM

1) Time Dilation: If a ship were to travel 1500 light years from earth to this planet at near light speed, it would indeed take 1500 years to arrive *from our perspective on earth*. Time is relative to velocity though, so only around 37 years would pass on board the ship itself. So, yeah, still not much use to us here on earth, but the ship itself would only have to support a few generations rather than several dozen. And yes, acceleration times would still need to be taken into account, so it would be more than 37 years, but still.

2) Betteridge's law of headlines: "Any headline that ends in a question mark can safely be answered, 'No.'" So... Q:Has Kepler Discovered an Alien Megastructure? A:No.

We currently can accelerate

Posted: Oct 15, 2015 7:27 PM

protons to 99.999999% the speed of light. We only need to get the ship to 99%. What if we use dark energy to propel the ship?

I don't see why it matters at all, if we can detect alien life from here that is still the biggest news of all time.

Humans can't travel at light speed. Even traveling at light speed, wouldn't make it that far in the span of human lifetime.

The idea that we are completely alone in the universe is astronomically implausible and a mathematical improbability.

If not this instance, communication will inevitably occur between our world and another.

I kind of sped read that buuut....

There is something else out there, and if it's aliens (which is just a term for not of this planet) they likely have technology that far surpasses anything we know. In that case it wouldn't take them 1500 years to get here or anywhere. Anyone that doesn't believe in other beings out there is naive to how big the universe really is.

Re: Regarding the massive ALIEN structure spotted in space.

Posted: Oct 15, 2015 7:48 PM

And my friend above us is correct...who do you think really built the pyramids all over the world?
The couple astronauts that have actually been to the moon say there were beings watching them but were censored by guess who...our government.
If they were hostile to any extent, we'd be gone already.

wow that went from 0 to tin foil hat pretty quickly.. what are you talking about "who do you really think built the pyramids"?

Are there aliens? Most probably. Who built the pyramids? Egyptians....

Not trying to open this whole can of worms but...

Posted: Oct 15, 2015 8:28 PM

It's been theorized that the Egyptians didn't build the pyramids. Dr. Robert Schoch has found water erosion on some of them and that would only be possible if they were thousands of years older than believed.

Anybody who doesnt believe in "Aliens"

Probably also believe that the Earth is 5,000 years old or that Egyptians built the pyramids

If it's alien, it's probably an AMAT farm, not a Dyson Sphere.

Basically, the science goes, we're in the Fission Age. The true "Fusion" age - cold fusion, all that jazz - will be the next one, and it will start when humans can get their hands on fairly large quantities of Helium-3, an isotope you'd find primarily in the atmospheres of gas giants. Look at Jupiter and Saturn and start thinking those big gasballs are the next gen's Saudi Arabia, because that's how important Helium-3 is likely to be to future generations.

The generation after that will, according to the eggheads, be powered by AMAT - antimatter. The problem with AMAT is that there just isn't much of it, so the best place to grab those rare but extremely potent particles would be scatter off a sun. Imagine what basically amount to giant butterfly nets floating in space, each thousands or tends of thousands of miles in diameter, that catch those uber-rare AMAT particles spat out - "farms", in other words.

None of them are putting their name to it publicly, but that's what a lot of scientists think the phenomenon the Kepler Array is seeing is - a giant AMAT farm array being deployed by an XT civ. We'll likely be doing that in a couple hundred years ourselves.

Not that it probably matters particularly to us anytime soon, since an XT civ with Helium-3 fusion tech could probably build a starship...albeit one that caps at probably 1/10 lightspeed. An AMAT civ could probably beat that by three times...the estimated cap for a starship there would probably be 3/10 lightspeed. In order to get ships up to 90% or more of lightspeed, you'd need some monster push, an in-system array that could send massive amounts of energy at a starship's solar sail and give it a "boost" on the way out of the system, which is way above AMAT tech, or you'd need something called "nanopoles", strictly theoretical objects that are orders of magnitude above what an AMAT civ could build.

And at 3/10 lightspeed, the aforementioned AMAT civ 1,500 light-years away would take about 5,000 years to reach us. So don't expect the AMAT farmers to be along anytime soon, if they even exist.

FTL travel is not mathematically possible except via the aforementioned wormholes. And nobody's ever had the first indication of one. We've never seen one, or even the indication of one...and the thing is, even a civ that could build them would still first have to get here from wherever they came from to drop one off. Which again, is going to take awhile.

My head hurts....***
