Schussler v. Bryant

Bryant has the speed on the run, but Schu right now has better accuracy on his throws. Who would you pick as the #2 QB, if Zerrick RS and Tucker wasn't ready?
Go tigers!

No brainer. Bryant. For many reasons.

I would go with Bryant. The offense just doesn't seem to flow when Schu is in the game. I think Bryant will be better this season with his passing. He still has a long way to go but we have been so spoiled with Watson we just have to be patient.

If Bryant has developed more as a passer with Streeter then I'm fairly confident he could come in and win games with the talent surrounding him.
Cooper is the future as of now though

Has Stringbean Schuessler added any muscle in the off season

He knows where to go but can't always deliver it on time. Still have to go with Nick as Bryant hasn't shown the accuracy to be a consistent threat in the passing game.

I personally don't think, based on what we've seen, either of them can get it done right now.
I'd give Bryant a 5 out of 10 at best, and that owing to his legs and athleticism. He's an elite athlete. He's also got a live arm but while he's improved he's just not a polished thrower right now, and I think he's rapidly running out of time. That metaphorical light needs to come on for him, and right now, or I think he's going to get passed by younger guys starting with Zerrick Cooper.
I'd give Schuessler maybe a 2 or 3 out of 10. He's looked OK in Spring Games but in live action he's looked, frankly, terrible, and this was even against FCS teams. He's shown absolutely nothing to indicate Clemson would do anything but plummet into the planet if he was pressed into full-time action. He's shown exactly zero composure when live bullets start flying, which is the most troublesome thing...a veteran QB should show veteran composure, and he just hasn't when pressed into service, even in bodybag games when we were up 40.
Personally I think Zerrick Cooper is probably better than either, right now. He's certainly a vastly more polished thrower than Bryant was coming out of high school. The question mark with Cooper is how quickly he assimilates the offense and playbook - if he does so, he could easily wind up our backup, and sooner rather than later. If Cooper's slow to acclimate and learn, Clemson could have a problem if Deshaun goes down for any length of time.

id have to say Bryant simply because

He's another body the D has to account for. With Feaster and the beef we have at RB and Oline, we may not need a heavy passer...just someone to keep the D honest.

Unfortunately, Nick would be more boo'd, beguiled and hated than Cole Stout and having lived through that dark, pitiful chapter in Clemson fandom history, I wouldn't wish that on anyone. So, Kelly Bryant by sheer default.

If Bryant isn't #2 this fall, he will not play QB @ Clemson

IMHO this fall is make or break for Bryant as a Tiger QB. However, he could play several other positions if he needed to ... or he could transfer.
I really think he will nail down the back-up QB job over the next few weeks and will battle Cooper and the 2017 guys for the starting spot after this season.
The 2017 QB race will be very interesting!

The spring game isn't a clear mark of talent for either. Last season I really thought the lights were about to turn on for Bryant. Great Miami game, came on the field at SU and was ready for him to blow them out of the water... Alas, big time fumble that made the game much closer than it needed to be.
Pro/Con for each: Bryant gives Clemson the dual QB we need and want. B- is very good as a runner. Schu nice accuracy on his passes. S- is not afraid to put a weird angle on a catchable ball. S- had a better spring game (although not a high stakes affair)
Con: Neither truly command the Offense, yet...there's time. Schu was able to move the ball in the spring game. So was B. Different strokes for different skill sets. The coaches like Bryant's potential more and they've given him some missed opportunities. S- As one of you said, Schu does get skittish under live game pressure, not what you want from a "veteran" QB. Dabo has talked about how S is like a dog that just won't quit.
I think the coaches continue to pick Bryant. Zerrick is given the opportunity to unseat him.
After Bryant's spring game I have to be honest I wasn't impressed. Some compare him to Woody Danzler, I don't think he matches up.
In 2017, I think Bryant considers a move to another position or another school if he gets bumped to 2nd or 3rd string. Although, it would be hard to see him as a starter in a RB position because we're so log jammed there with Feaster, Dye, Choice, Fuller... So I'm not sure where else his skill set might come in handy. He'd definitely be welcomed to throw the occasional HB pass.
It's an interesting position we're in and the choice is always up to the coaches, but let's just say Bryant needs to step it up. D. Watson is still the franchise.

Who are we playing? What are the strengths and weaknesses of their defense? Different skill set for each QB leads to a different answer to who plays. I trust our coaches. GO TIGERS!!!
