I know some don't like the idea of promoting within...but

Nov 28, 2014, 7:31 PM

I could see Jeff Scott going with Morris if he doesn't get a shot at the OC gig here at Clemson. To me, that'd be a pretty big loss. I'm not sure how some of our commitments would feel about our recruiting coordinator hitting the road.

It also says in this article that Jeff Scott is the second lowest paid assistant coach on our staff at $275,000.

If you like the success of Clemson's recruiting and want to prevent any of our highly rated kids from going elsewhere, it may be the best thing to at least give Scott a chance (with of course a pay raise). What you guys think?

Scott might turn out to be great, and then again he might not. He is an unknown at this point. I would just be worried another situation like the situation with Napier could form. If Chad leaves, I hope we go after someone who is proven.

Napier would have been successful if he'd

been allowed to coach his recruits. Chad's success was with Napier/Scott/Dabo recruited players.Scott WILL be successful.

There is no way to know if Napier would have been successful, but in 2010 we were terrible on offense. There is absolutely no way to know if Scott will be successful as an OC at this point. The only thing we know about him is that he is an awesome recruiter. While it is obviously important to bring in the talent, there is a lot more an OC is responsible for than just recruiting. It seems to me that the best OCs are able to display an awesome ability in situational playcalling, which is a skill that we have no idea if Scott has.

This ^^

And if he doesn't work out, were out of an OC again AND our best recruiter.

That would truly suck.

That's what I was thinking...... Give him a big raise and let him recruit.

I agree. .that's what I've read the plan was the past few years

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I'd rather take a chance on promoting Elliot to RC

Nov 28, 2014, 7:34 PM

Than Scott to OC, we have too much talent to take a gamble on an unproven OC

Brad Brownell: more losses than any other coach in school history.

I think if Scott gets the job we need to add a qb coach. I dont know how well Scott could develope qb's.
