ESPN’s metrics already declared Clemson the
best team in the land back in February. Just how big a favorite the Tigers are is striking.
Clemson is favored by more than 12 points versus each team on its schedule per ESPN. Dabo Swinney’s group is a far-and-away leader among its peers in chances to win its conference with zero or one loss (49 percent), pacing Alabama (28) and Georgia (27). Clemson leads a group of six teams with the best chance to lead in the strength of record metric (54 percent), ahead of Alabama (40), Georgia (38), Washington (36), Notre Dame (34) and Ohio State (32). The Tigers are projected 11.4 wins by ESPN’s Football Power Index with the highest chance to win out before the postseason (19 percent) and the best chance to win a conference (54).
