Tigers Finish Off Catamounts |
Stephen Faris started the first game with no outs and runners on first and third with the Tigers leading 4-2. Faris fielded a ground ball and nabbed the runner at third. The next batter hit another ball right back to the mound, and Faris made the throw to second for the second out. Faris was able to work his way out of the jam without giving up a run.
The Tigers were able to add three runs to the lead, led by a two RBI double by Tyler Colvin. The Catamounts did score two runs off of Faris that were unearned. The Tigers held on for the 7-4 victory. In the nightcap, P.J. Zocchi made his first appearance of the season. Zocchi was given the start, so he would be sure to get the necessary warm up pitches he needed. Zocchi did not give up a run in two innnings and had one strikeout. Chris Fidrych came on in relief to pitch four innings only allowing one hit. In the 10-1 victory, the Catamounts did not score until the ninth inning on a sacrifice fly. Freshman Taylor Harbin led the Tigers in hitting. Harbin went 3 for 4 with three RBIs, while adding his 18th double of the season. Andy D'Alessio started the scoring off with a two run homer in the second inning. Travis Storrer also had a good night going 3 for 5 and scoring a run. Freshman David Kopp will get the start versus South Carolina in Columbia tomorrow night. Ray Tanner has yet to announce a starter for the Gamecocks. There are some indications that he will start Jason Fletcher or Jeff Jeffords. Game is expected to be sold out by the first pitch at 7:00 pm.
