Purnell Grabs Two Commitments

by -

On Labor Day, Clemson men's basketball head coach Oliver Purnell landed two commitments. 6-foot-9 AJ Tyler became the third commitment for the 2006 recruiting class. Tyler plays better facing the basket and has a nice perimeter jump shot. He is a key addition to the 2006 class as the Tigers will lose seniors Akin Akingbala and Steve Allen to graduation.

The big news of the day is the commitment of Laron Dendy. Dendy is 6-foot-8 rim rocking junior. He is one of the top fifty rising juniors in the nation and the top rated junior in South Carolina. Dendy is potentially the biggest commitment to date for Purnell. After a visit this past weekend, Dendy knew he wanted to stay in-state.

"I was looking hard at some other schools, but then I began looking at staying in-state. After sitting down with Coach Purnell, I knew Clemson was where I wanted to be. I sat down with my family and coach to discuss my decision. It will be a great environment for me to play in and get a good education," said Dendy.

Dendy is the first member of the 2007 class, and Tyler joined Trevor Booker and David Potter in the 2006 class.
