CLEMSON, S.C. – Redshirt junior Valerie Cagle has notched her fifth ACC weekly honor of the 2023 season being crowned the ACC Pitcher of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday. This is also the third consecutive week that Cagle has earned a weekly ACC honor earning Co-Player of the Week on March 28 and Pitcher of the Week on March 21.

The Yorktown, Va., native led the charge for the No. 4/5 Tigers to a 4-0 week with a victory in the circle against South Carolina and two at Boston College. She pitched 15 total innings between her three appearances and maintained a 0.00 ERA dropping her season ERA down to 0.44, which leads the ACC and is second in the nation, while also holding a 0.17 ERA against ACC opponents. She only allowed four hits and gave up only one walk while striking out 12 en route to moving to 18-1 on the year.

She opened the week with a five-inning shutout against in-state rival South Carolina where she allowed only one hit and picked up five strikeouts to earn the run-rule victory. She continued action on Friday coming in at relief to earn the win against Boston College where she pitched the final five innings allowing only two hits with three strikeouts. She concluded week eight action with a five-inning solo shutout against the Eagles picking up another four strikeouts while only giving up one hit. Sunday’s victory marked the seventh solo shutout of the season and 25th of her career to help secure the series sweep.

This is Cagle’s fifth Pitcher of the Week honor on her career, and the third time she has been awarded it this season. Duke’s Ana Gold was named ACC Player of the Week.

The Tigers (36-1, 12-0 ACC) return to action for a four-game home stretch this week welcoming Furman to McWhorter Stadium on Wednesday at 7 p.m. on the ACC Network. Action begins on Thursday, April 6 against Florida State at 6 p.m. on ACC Network before continuing Friday at 7 p.m. on ESPN2. The series concludes on Saturday at noon on ACCNX.
