I found the Sports Section of THE STATE, dated Sunday, Nov. 21, 1976. The headline read, "Young Tigers Come of Age, Destroy USC's Bowl Hopes With 28-9 Lacing."
It went on to read that "Enright must be spinning in his grave." Crowd of 54,129, a record attendance for a game at Frank Howard Field.
"The victory gave Clemson a 3-6-2 record for the season, but dropped USC's mark to 6-5 and eliminated the Gamecocks from consideration for a Peach Bowl berth."
Sophomore Steve Fuller, running back Tracy Perry, freshman tailback Warren Ratchford, coach Red Parker. Also tackle Jim Stuckey, linebacker Randy Scott. Gamecock coach was Jim Carlen and QB was Ron Bass.

just like with Pell, Hatfield, and West. They all went out with a win over South Carolina.

Was that the year we always played a great 2nd half after a really poor 1st half, and Pell didn't warm up pregame, but played a half of football on the practice field pregame?

That was the 1980 game and the introduction of orange britches. Game was 6-3 Clemson at the half. SC was driving behind eventual Heisman winner George Rogers. Carlen went brain-dead and threw a short down-and-out pass that Willie Underwood took back inside the Gamecocks 5-yard line. Rogers was the SC player that saved the TD, for the time being.

I was there. I think that might have been the game the Coots fumbled a kick-off and we also might have had a pick-6. Then Clemson started getting better in 77 & 78 with Fuller and the Bostic brothers.

14 and 13, ran into a group of what we considered "old" people, SC students waiting in line. Clemson was 2-6-2 going into the game and the coot students saw us in orange and started chanting, "Moo moo moo, moo moo moo, Clemson Tigers 2-7-2". Well, Clemson won big and finished 3-6-2. Would have loved to have seen their faces during that game.
