WW2 Salt Tablets

During WW2 we were given salt tablets to replace the salt we lost through sweat. This was the message we received. In one of the outfits I was in during the war, it was determined some of the men were not following the "take your salt". From that point on, as long as I was in that company, one day each week we had to go by the lister bag with our canteen. One of the officers was standing near the lister bag and gave each man a salt tablet and recorded on a chart that each man had indeed had his salt. Later on, we learned that those salt tablets were really not justified

tablets in Basic Training in 1969……. likely 25 years after it was determined that all they did was give folks stomach cramps. We took them much more often than weekly. In Nam they sent us soft drinks sweetened with Cyclamate after that was banned in the States for supposedly being linked to cancer. Follow the science for real.

I was working in a supermarket, dumped cases of Gatoraid down the drain, but took a few cases home.

Could of been worse. Could of been Castor oil. Bend over and heaved one over the razor fence,

At least they didn't sneak you into MK-Ultra

Seems like the salt would actually dry you out, and increase dehydration risks

salt causes you to retain water, that is why it also raises your blood pressure and causes cramping. Now we have Gatorade to replace salts and electrolytes for athletes that do sweat a lot.

Things like Gatorade do work.

We had salt tablets with athletic teams in the early 60's.

We had them too in high school football in SC during August two a day practices in the late 70s. The practice stopped in the early 80s.

Yeah, we had them at Daniel HS in the weight
room next to the water fountain in the late
70s (I graduated in '80). I think they were
gone soon after since my 2 younger brothers
didn't have them. I used to take a couple of
them after a workout; would be way too much
sodium intake now.
