I have always hated how long CBB's leash has been. How could it take so many losses before getting it together. Milton Jennings, KJ, Blossomgame, Sims, DaVoe, Little Booker...?
So many ups and downs with all of those teams where they could light it up in a big game and go 8 minutes blanked against nobody. Defense first, no offensive rebounding, swing pass after swing pass, no one consistently taking hits on a drive, loose screens, etc.
I thought I had seen what I needed to for CBB's brand to not work in the ACC of old. But in today's ACC with our roster's talent arguably 9 deep, I'm seeing something I haven't seen. I know the ACC is down, but watching the games, the opponent isn't bad. FSU played hard and went frigid shooting, but they were playing pretty good defense and getting to the foul line. They're a D1 roster coached by an old school ACC winner. Duke, Kentucky, they're legit, right? For Clemson, it's amazing that everyone can handle the ball, the passes are crisp, everyone can hit deep, drive and kick, and play very strong defense. Hell, we're even beating the press and inbounding well, finally! Lol
I consider myself a 7 out of 10 in basketball awareness, certainly not an expert, and I've obviously been wrong all along or this is just an anomaly of perfect chemistry and timing. Is it just the talent that's here finally taking the teaching? New assistants adding new details? He has the talent, we have a team. The last two years have been entertaining basketball and I need to know why I was wrong about CBB for so long.
Go Tigers!

has. We need to finally win an ACCT and make it to the Final Four. Those are two things I'm hopeful for.
Would also love to see baseball back in Omaha consistently. Softball is young and is rebuilding, and Poppy build a consistent winner and soccer will continue their run.
Tennis is off to a good year. Let's just say, I'm pulling for all Tigers!!!

There’s a direct correlation in an uptick in recruiting, player development, and home atmosphere since the renovations and more money for assistant staff.
However, the biggest X - factor is Brownell’s way of not only navigating the portal, but getting them to come here.
He’s not being in mercenaries, he’s bringing in Clemson men.
JG3 is one of ours now despite just one year.
Lahkin Blockin has a home away from Russia here now.
Clemson is more special than any other college in the nation, Brownell is finally tapping into that.

This is a complete myth. CU athletic budgets are reading available and the single biggest variable in the basketball budget over his tenure is his salary.

The administration finally upgraded the basketball budget to provide better facilities and more money for staff.
It is no coincidence that wins followed, just like they did for Clemson football when we did the same for Dabo.

Dabo Swinney happened. Plans were in the works to renovate lj. Some debate whether to tear it down or renovate etc. But that took time. So until cbb shows the Dabo consistency, imo, it's just law of averages. It's not like we've been horrible in basketball. We've had some good teams. We've never been consistent.
Don't overlook the assistants either. I think Neff helped a lot more than realized. I don't think cbb just all of a sudden learned how to coach. Time will tell.

I agree that our assts. have to be given some credit. We have become a much more competitive rebounding team last few years and I would guess assts. helped bring that forward as it seemed CBB ignored that part of the game for his first 10-12yrs.
The year Collins played is when we started to rebound. Thats right around Donolon coming on board. We used to shoot and run the court for defense but now we fight for rebound.
Our teams have seemed to be better coached last few years but I am sure more seasoned Portal guys has helped that as well.

Brad was learning on the job. He was a mid major coach who did pretty well at that level but definitely wasn’t ready for a major D1 head man job. He learned how to win the big games and not lose so many of the gimme games. Dabo went through this. He had to learn to win. He had to learn how to get the team motivated when playing sister Sadie of the poor. Brad also learned to build a roster. It was painful at times and took far longer than I would have allowed but the Brad has transformed into a winner. He understands chemistry and complimentary roster building. He’s no longer a defense only coach. He’s finally gotten the money to hire legit high end assistant coaches. He has better facilities now although we need a new practice facility with state of the art recovery. It’s Clemson basketball I’ve always dreamed of. Enjoy it. I know I am. I’ve had to eat a little crow and that’s perfectly fine with me. Especially when I’m getting respect from all these Dook and UNC alums out here in eastern NC.

instant eligibility for transfers now, whereas Brad's first decade plus here they had to sit out a year before getting on the court. We've lost a lot of our HS recruits here over the years - heading into last season it was 6 out of the prior 10 recruits that had transferred out, and it's been a similar thing throughout. The difference here lately is that replacements transferring in can play immediately, so instead of constantly being a year away from a more complete roster, we've eliminated that gap. Brad has had to participate heavily in the transfer area since the beginning simply to keep our roster full. That experience is paying off.

finally be gone after this year. Those extra "Covid Years" have given us, and every other school that takes transfers, some uber highly experienced players, whose eligibility, without Covid, would have been over before they ever came here.
CBB has also made major use of what I call the Opposite of One and Doners, which is, last year graduate transfers. He has hit on just about every one he took, but, no matter how well they mesh, they are only here for one year. You get into that "Live by the Portal, Die by the Portal" mentality that I would rather Clemson not be associated with, if that is a staple of your roster.
No denying the regular season success this year. It remains to be seen when Lucy will yank the ball away again, for the umpteenth year in a row. And, to call that streak ended, I am not even asking for a Natty. Or even a Final Four, although that would be a logical progression from last year. Just win me an ACC Tournament. ONE in a row. Boldly go where NO Clemson basketball coach has gone before. You can't say he hasn't had the time, or the resources by now. Then, and only then, would I believe things may have really changed.

The shooting on his last 3-4 teams drastically improved. He used to milk the clock trying to shorten the game because our offense was limited. Agree ACC Tournament Championship would be a very nice “ next step “.
