I don't know the answer to your question, but I have a copy of a painting of the stadium made in the early '80s called "Showdown at Death Valley". It's been hanging on my wall for at least 30 years. It looks exactly like the picture except the stadium is packed for a game, the team has just run down the hill and the balloons have been released! Just like today.

four seasons; 79, 80, 81 and 82. The South Upper deck wasn't ready until the SCAR game in 1978. It was my sophomore year at Clemson, and I sat up there that first game.

Add to the fact TV games were rare in those days, it makes sense there are limited photos floating around with the single upper deck. Plus, the stadium looks better with both decks, it provides good symmetry.

I had a large framed print of the stadium given to me as a gift in 1982, with just the South Upper Deck. It has been in a closet for most of the last 30 years.

1st row of the student section. The bleachers weren't even installed. We sat on the concrete, lol.
