What is the worst band you've ever heard?

I had the displeasure of hearing Lady Antebellum on Audience/Direct TV channel this am. Was like a train wreck, It was so bad I had to watch for a few minutes. Absolute worst music I've ever heard.

The Guess Who....

Burton was sloppy drunk at Carolina Coliseum. Poco was the first band. Rusty was great. Crowd didn't want them to leave. Gave Burt more time to drink. The BTO Boys were spot on. Burton slammed on the piano keys and slurred the lyrics. Got beyond vulgar on American Woman. The women that were there got up and left.

I heard a band play once that was really bad, but I was a little intoxicated. So I don’t remember the name of the band.
But they were definitely the worst band I ever heard.

I've walked out of 3 concerts in my life
Aug 5, 2018, 8:42 PM
|
|
--- ones that I have paid to see. These would be the finalists in my mind. And I have been to many, many shows from my first show in the mid-70's to the present day. I can't even estimate how many. Easily over a thousand, almost all genres. I've seen some of the greatest ever bands...and I've seen some really bad ones. But I've only left 3 shows early - way early.
(I'm not counting high school dance-type bands or some dude picking a guitar in the corner of a bar. Nor am I counting something I have heard on the radio because that would bring in too many to intelligently weed out.) So live bands only.
A couple big-time honorable mentions: Bob Dylan (didn't understand a single word he sang); Hank Jr in his wasted-beyond-standing-up years; Van Halen (DL Roth was a drunken stooge who couldn't remember the words, Eddie singlehandedly salvaged the show).
Another honorable mention: I once saw Men Without Hats in a redneck bar in an extremely rural part of SC. Why they were booked there is beyond my comprehension. They had to stop playing after about 3 songs in fear for their lives as a riot was imminent. A real-life Blues Brothers "Bob's Country Bunker" scene. So I'm not really sure how terrible they were, truth be told.
Anyways, back to The Three: Survivor (yeah the "Eye of the Tiger" guys), The Dead Milkmen, and Widespread Panic. Of those, I would say The Dead Milkmen win the title. Because I actually sorta thought I liked them going in. Wow, they were terrible.
this is a good facsimile of what I saw (same basic time period) from Youtube. Its only 2 minutes: https://youtu.be/j_Qt6rTDgXU

It was a 1969 battle of the bands. I never when to a concert that wasn't outstanding starting with some club called the Underground Velvet back in 1967. It was a teenage place that didn't sell alcohol. Later some of the bands that were upstarts or had hit on fairly hard times. Those who would play Knoxville or Chattanooga.

3 of the best guitar players ever are "neck R&R"?
Aug 6, 2018, 10:19 AM

This is...an interesting opinion.
One of them was child prodigy guitar player, and another one of them invented a new amplifier.I don't know of any 'neck' electrical engineers who invent a new amplifier and form a company around it to sell it.

Littlejohn Coliseum. "The night J Geils Band saved my life". The opener was Focus, a Dutch band that had a hit that year called Hocus Pocus. Pretty good musicians, but they played in an uber frenetic style and the lead singer yodeled. Check out the video. They played about a 45 min version of that damm song. 10th grade and the first time I tripped. Not a good combo. That song went on and on and on, and he kept yodeling and yodeling... and it was loud as ####. I couldn't take it. It was driving me stark raving mad. I ended up laying down on the floor with my hands over my ears... I may have been crying... that song just wouldn't end....
Finally, the J Geils Band took the stage and started putting out that classic Detroit funk. And the sun came back out in my world... and all was well in the universe.

Heard or seen? Seen I'd go REM in Littlejohn back in the day
Aug 6, 2018, 10:18 AM

Was pretty disappointed.
Heard? Too many to mention.
Now that said, when I lived in Athens from 89-91 it was nothing to see the REM lads about town. Saw Peter Buck sit in on sets at the 40 Watt with bands like the Feelies. Saw Stipe just hanging out at the Globe. Good times.

a band called Wormbelly that used to frequent the music farm. hands down worst
in terms of national acts, Counting Crows. They were terrible. Second would be Alien Ant Farm at Littlejohn. They didn't even play their best song (which is a cover, so not even their best) 311 rocked after that.

Kenny Rogers. Yep. I have seen The Gambler live and in person.
Ronnie Milsap. Played a free concert at one of the malls in Augusta when malls were a big thing and having one was an event (Yep. APM is old.).
