What has happened with Ryan Linthicum?

A few years ago it was said he would be starting center as a freshman. We haven’t heard his name since!

He's only been in the program for 1 year, He wasn't expected to start as a true freshman.

Meh, take Tnet rankings with a grain of salt, he wasn’t the number one center via the composite rankings, and was an best 4th in all the services besides Rivals who had him 1…. That said he’s 6’4 280+ lbs…. A year in the system and the weight room, unless he’s not learning protections and the playbook he should be a beast and starting.

He dropped about a 100 spots by the time the final recruit rankings were released. Most likely due to not playing football his senior year. Still, I’m excited about having him on the team, and I think he’s going to make us proud.

He came in very small. I think 275-280. At that size it’ll take 2-3 years before making an impact. Hoping he gives us a good year or two eventually. Hoping he isn’t the next Will Putnam.

I don't know why anyone thought he would be the starting center as a true freshman. One, not everyone rated him so high. Secondly, he was rated sometimes just inside the top 300 and other times just inside the top 100. Finally, that's one of the hardest most complex positions on the field. He needs to mature, get stronger, and know the system. Of course he isn't starting as a true frosh. I will be happy with redshirt sophomore year he would be out guy for a couple of years.

Red Shirt year.
Most were not expected to contribute to the depth of the OL (nevermind about starting) for a couple of years.
Seeing a guy come in and start on the OL as a freshman as once considered all but unthinkable.
Now we ask “What happened to ...?” When a kid isn’t ready as soon as he hits campus.
And with the d.@.m.n portal, we will probably see a lot of potentially great, but unprepared OL bolting when they don't play as freshmen.

he's small. Needed time to develop physically.
I don't know why people thought he could play right away. I guess he should have been a 4 star, not 5.

Going against Bresee in high school and presumably college should flatten the learning curve.

a RS Freshman. I think others here are missing the point; it isn't so much that he didn't start as a true freshman, but rather that in a season that saw a ridiculous number of injuries on the O-Line that resulted in serious depth issues all across the line and players changing position and shuffling around, Linthicum was a complete ghost. Furthermore, when talking about the O-line for 2022, he barely gets a mention or a thought, all after being the #1 center in the nation out of high school. We've had highly touted freshemn start and do extremely well on the O-line in recent years, so it's an excellent question, and one that I don't have an answer for either, except can only speculate that he needs more time to develop. His uncle actually lives here in Greenville, and if I see him anytime soon, I'll see if I can get any info.

Thanks ST. Seen you mentioned 300 so 20 lbs in a year; if so I believe that’s pretty dang good and it’s still only February.

This was exactly what I was thinking when I made my OP. Then I came across his Twitter that I posted. He seems focused. I think he will see some PT this year for sure.

A true freshman last year that had Covid derail his HS senior year. A normal OL is ready his RS SO year to contribute physically. Some special ones can do it earlierer.
